Painting Tip #31 - Skin Color for Portraiture

The human face tends to have bands of color – the forehead is yellow, the middle of the face is red and the lower face is cool. Look carefully and you will see this tendency, especially in Caucasian models.

Cedric Egeli - Another Modern Masterpiece

Here is another beautiful oil portrait of Joanette by Cedric Egeli.

I think that those long, elegant arms are reminiscent of a couple of Sargent's subjects - Madame X, as well as the painting of Ena and Betty Wertheimer, where the sister in red languidly holds a fan.
